While clothing and objects in images must be of a bright, thin material, GIMP is able to increase the item’s transparency so that users can actually see through the object that they are looking at. The X-Ray feature can be applied in GIMP by opening the desired image and using the scissors tool to select an object (this can be done by clicking on areas around the object and then clicking the center of the object to edit it). The user then finds the Colors tab on the toolbar and selects Levels. An interface box should appear that allows the user to move sliders back and forth to achieve transparency within the object.This will allow the user to apply a basic X-ray to an image, but further transparency can be achieved by clicking on Colors and selecting Hue/Saturation.
The user can adjust these sliders to make the image clearer. More adjustments can be made in the Brightness/Contrast window in the Colors tab. The user can then make manual adjustments by selecting the Dodge/Burn option and selecting an appropriately sized brush. The Dodge option allows the user to lighten an image while the Burn option allows the user to darken it. The user can go to “Undo History,” select the Scissors, and copy and paste it into the bottom button marked “Select None.” This allows the user to drag the original section over the modified section.
The airbrush can then be used (high brush scale/low pressure) to cover the selected area in bright yellow. The user can now select the Layer tab on the toolbar, Transparency, and “Color to Alpha” and choose the same shade of yellow as before (FFF000 works best). The Hues/Saturation option on the Colors tab will now create a much more realistic image when the saturation is set to zero.Other GIMP FeaturesWhile GIMP is able to create an X-Ray of an image, it is also able to perform many more tasks. Gimp doesn't have an Exposure setting like that, which is kind of a lacking point, but on the other hand easily worked-around by using the curves tool instead. It appears that recently, the trend in Gimp has been to focus the software as more a graphics design and image manipulation tool rather than photo post-processing software. That's a bit too bad for us photographers, but the fact is that such adjustments are really better done earlier in the workflow, ideally by getting the exposure right initially — or, failing that, in RAW development.Anyway, you can see what the Gimp 'Brightness' adjustment is doing by using the Brightness/Contrast control and setting the value to +100 brightness, then hitting 'Edit as Levels' and in that tool hitting 'Edit as Curves'.
You'll get a Curves dialog similar to this:The gray line from corner to corner is the existing file, and the black line is the new mapping.This is, unfortunately, exactly the opposite of what you want to do to emulate the (non-motion related, of course — we'll take a static scene as a given!) effect of a longer exposure. It`s quite easy to make x-ray of clothes to nude, but it`s no magic.Finding a picture that can be x-rayed might be hardest part of x-raying clothes. Once you find it, you can follow these steps and make your first before & after x-ray nude picture, like the one at the end of this tutorial.This tutorial is made for Photoshop CS6. There might be some differences with the older or newer version of Photoshop.
The commands in this tutorial are basic Photoshop commands, so you should be able to use them all in old and new PS versions, they just might look or are named differently. Step #4 Adding colors to x-rayed clothesHold Ctrl key and click on black and white icon on one of your mask layers to select x-rayed area and make new layer. You can find the New Layer icon at bottom of the Layers window, next to trash can icon.Now select Eyedropper Tool ( hotkey I ) on your tools bar and click on nude skin to select its color.Pick Paint Bucket Tool and fill highlighted selection. On the Layers panel change the layer`s blending mode from Normal to Hue.Duplicate the layer you just made and change its blending mode to Soft Light. Change Opacity of that layer somewhere from 30% to 50%Those blending settings might work differently for different pictures.

Take a good look at your x-ray nude. It should look like see-through clothes. If some detail looks off, you need to fix it.
Here are some details that usually need some tinkering. Adding non transparent parts of clothesThere are some parts of clothes that don`t cover the body, instead they fall freely aside. Of course, nude body is not visible under those parts, so we`ll cover those parts with original clothes and get only shape of body x-rayed.
Not whole shirtCopy Background layer on bottom by right clicking on it, then Duplicate Layer. Drag a new layer on top of all layers and name it “Non Transparent”Using Eraser Tool (E) delete parts of clothes where clothes touch the skin. Change Opacity of eraser to 50% and erase wrinkled parts of clothes that don`t touch the skin. Sonic the hedgehog graphic novels. Leave parts of clothes that don`t cover the body. You can also leave thicker parts of clothes like a collar or some graphics or patterns on clothes. Whatever would make it more realistic.
Adding more shadows and highlightsPay attention to the light source angle. Are all the shadows in place? Draw on picture to add more highlights.A nice trick here is to draw on boobs, adding more highlights where light would fall on breasts if they were exposed and add more shadows on the opposite side. Don`t overdo it, keep it realistic.And you are done!

Aside from those that don`t work at all, those that do are just bad.They have an integrated curves adjustment that is very limited and brighnes&contrast option. I wouldn`t recommend downloading them.There are also high-tech night-vision video cameras that can somewhat see through clothes.
But it`s still not there yet. That is a technology of rendering the heat signature of a body in on the image. Some neat thing, but it`s still not the real see-through clothes vision.And just to mention those airport scanners while I`m at it.
